Spring is rife in the air of the English countryside. Blooming flowers, larks on the wing, snails on the thorn, all of that lovely rubbish. The social scene of the English gentry shifts from the city of London out to country manors, such as Blandings Castle in Shropshire.
Lord Emsworth, twelfth in his line, would love nothing more than to ignore it altogether, focusing his attentions on pottering in the garden and raising his prize-winning pigs. Sadly, his sister Constance has other ideas, so this weekend is a grand party at Blandings.
Soon a horde of friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, and assorted hangers-on will descend on the grand old pile, eating his food, trampling across his grounds, and generally making a nuisance of themselves.
