It wasn’t until after Georgina Enfield took her last breath that construction came to a halt; construction that had gone on round the clock for the past forty years. It was said that Georgina hired the builders the day after she met with a medium regarding the sudden deaths of her husband and young children. No one knew what happened in that meeting, but the household staff heard whispers of curses and vengeful spirits. Georgina drew up many if the plans herself: windows looking into other rooms, stairs leading into the ceiling, switch-back stairs and more besides. The Enfield mansion and its grounds grew ever more complex and labyrinthine, along with the rumours surrounding its eccentric mistress. According to the staff, the spirits have become restless since the building stopped. They’ve learned the mansion’s tricks and are now acting out.
You have been invited to spend the night at the Enfield estate by Victor Lockwood, Georgina’s grand-nephew and sole heir. Victor did not know his great-aunt in life, but finds her mansion delightfully spooky and a suitable place for a smashing party. The first order of the evening will be cocktails, followed by dinner. The highlight will be the seance in the unused ballroom at midnight, conducted by Elsie Kimball, a medium who is all the rage with the well to do. Victor Lockwood is known for his extravagant parties, but no one could predict the events yet to unfold.
