It is September of 1888, and you are part of the crew of the pirate airship ‘Аврора Лэнс‘ (ru: Avrora Lens / en: Aurora Lance). While at Pay & Party near Belgrade, you are contacted by an unknown benefactor who needs a single passenger couriered from Belgrade to Dundalk. The promised pay is substantial, provisional on success.
Setting: A Russian-origin pirate airship, based upon the Steampunk setting of “The Sauder Diaries” novels.
Tone: Heroic, improbable, some humor, some tears.
Number of players: 4 - 6
Player roles: Chief Engineer, Gunner-Marine Captain, Ship’s Doctor, Deck Officer, Cheif Steward, Watch Officer. please note, the only duplicate nature / role permitted is Watch Officer
Power scale: Moderate. One or two pieces of “plot device” Steam-Tech at most. Pistols, axes, cutlasses, belaying pins are the most common weapons in a fight.
Act 1, Scene 1 will be: Attacking a merchant ship with surprisingly good defences and capturing her.
Character relationships: You all know each other, and have been living and working together for at least six months. Your crewmates are all talented and capable pirates and so far life is good. You may not be best-friends or serious drinking buddies, but you have no reason to actively dislike each other, either.
Other Notes:
- Familiarity with Steampunk as a genre is invaluable. Familiarity with the setting of “The Sauder Diaries” is entirely optional.
- The Captain of the Avrora Lens is under the control of the Narrator.
- Pirates are an international mongreldom, so any North American, European, African or Asian culture of the Victoria era is legit.
- The Linga Franca aboard the Avrora Lens is Russian, but we’ll be writing in English. So if you don’t say otherwise, your character is speaking Russian.
