The Trouble with Parents

The end has come. War has arrived. The ancient prophecies have been fulfilled, and the chosen heroes have risen to face the darkness and save the world.
They have failed. They have been captured. They are missing.

The Sages are in hiding. The Witches have fled. The Scholars have locked their doors and pretend they never heard of any prophecy. The world’s salvation has vanished into the enemy’s stronghold, and no one is coming to help.

Except for some very worried parents.

You raised one of those heroes. You taught them to walk, to read, to hold a sword properly, to always wear clean undergarments because you never know when you might end up unconscious in a healer’s tent. You kissed their scraped knees and listened to their childhood fears and watched them grow into someone destined to save the world.

Now it’s your turn.

You are not a chosen one. You cannot wield ancient magic or fulfill cryptic prophecies. You have a bad back and worry about coin purses and know that “just walking into Mordor” is a terrible plan because you’ve actually read the logistics reports.

But you also know that no dark lord in existence is prepared to deal with angry parents who want their children back.

Adventure awaits! Or, more accurately, a very determined and practical rescue mission that will probably involve a lot more bargaining, bribery, and common sense than anyone expects.

Your Submission should include your character, at least some basic information about your hero child, and one embarrassing moment that the parent loves to tell about the hero child.
