1816, the year without a summer.

Beneath a misty pale yellow sky, a perpetual cold rain drizzles down. Riots grip the city of London, while the farmers in the surrounding lands tighten their belts and try to get by.

Fairmont House, in the English countryside, home of the Lord and Lady Fairmont, has been insulated by distance and wealth from the worst effects of the unrest and the food shortages, but a worried atmosphere pervades the house, nonetheless.

On the night of June 13th, 1816, a storm seemed to appear out of nowhere. A flash of lightning and a resounding crack of thunder rang out, followed immediately by an otherworldly screech and the shattering of glass. From the chaos, something emerged. After a brief battle in the darkness, leaving the sitting room a wreckage, the Lord Fairmont and his footmen successfully imprisoned that something in the cellar.

A succubus, it is said. A demon, in feminine form. According to the holy men, she is pure evil, but as far as anyone knows, she has only just arrived, and has done no evil. At least not yet. Is it only a matter of time, or is the only true evil in the hearts of men?

One could always ask, but no one has dared to attempt to speak to her, fearing the temptress’s persuasive powers to convince them to let her out. If she were allowed out of the cellar, surely she would fly off into the mists… and perhaps into history. Would she never be seen again, or would she be seen again all too soon? Either way, there would be no going back.

Nonetheless, doing nothing is not an option. It’s not likely a cellar can hold a demon for long, and even if it could, people are already beginning to talk, speaking in whispered tones about the Succubus of Fairmont House. Some say her appearance in the current times could mean the end of the world is at hand…

In these dark times, is it wrong to make a deal with a devil? Is it wrong not to?
