The Neverwood forest was known for its ability to swallow up travelers and ruffians alike; with barely a tenth of those who stumbled away from the path able to find their way out again. In time, a dense fog overtook the forest, ending all trade passage through it entirely.
Legend says a boy wandered in after the road was closed and the Crown outlawed entrance, looking for his father who was still on the other side of it toward the northern sea. For fifty years this boy was thought lost to its depths and his bereaved family eventually left the village by the forest where they lost their boy.
Fifty years and then the boy returned from the wood an aged man, carrying with him a sapling in his dirty, withered hands. With his loved ones long gone and his feeble body unable to reach out to them, he planted the sapling at the edge of the forest from which he came and died shortly thereafter.
The tree grew quickly and flowered strange and wonderful blossoms which were said to have cured any injury or illness, short of a lost head. It was named Albion, after the lost boy turned man who returned with the miracle tree only to give up his life once planting it. For decades the tree provided for the village by the forest great health and wealth until one day it too wilted and died there at the edge of the Neverwood.
By now the legend of the Albion tree and its miracle healing powers are only spoken in whispers by the oldest of elderly still living in the walled city of Norwood, overlooking the outlawed forest. Castle Norwood where Lady Delevieigh governs is the only remaining household which has explicit permission from the Crown to access the border wall blocking the woods itself, and even then only as a measure of noble security.
Your story begins when your character, for one reason or another, decides to risk it all to venture across the wall at Norwood and into the forbidden forest to retrieve another Albion sapling.
