I’m currently planning to un-suspend this game after a long hiatus with buy-in confirmed by almost the entire player group! That said, I am potentially looking for another player to round out the current crew.
The successful applicant will have read the game up until the current point and will have familiarized themselves with the content of the webpage linked below, in addition to the other requirements detailed below.
All pretenses of the myth of climate change have evaporated. Equatorial regions of Africa, the Middle East, Southern Asia, Southern Europe and Latin America have been devastated by drought, creeping desertification, torrential flooding and persistent sea level rises. Many areas of the world have become uninhabitable and hundreds of millions of people have become refugees in their own lands as they attempt to resettle in more northerly and southerly latitudes. Once thriving cities like Phoenix, Las Vegas, Dubai and Mexico City are abandoned. Coastal areas lacking adequate defenses are inundated by rising sea levels.
In Europe, many have looked to Britain as a “lifeboat”, which, despite being subject to increasingly volatile weather is relatively stable compared to the likes of Spain, Italy and the Balkans. A similar situation is occurring in Canada which has actually prospered from climate change due to improved agriculture and precipitation. It now faces a mass exodus of immigrants from the USA, Mexico and elsewhere.
Localized conflicts over food, water, territory and resources have erupted around the world.
As it had for thousands of years humanity finds a way to struggle on; to take on these new burdens, to adapt and to survive. One such endeavor of mans survival is the Gaia Initiative.
The Gaia Initiative was a massive undertaking; a multi-government backed scientific coalition whose driving directive was the preservation of Earth and its inhabitants. There were two primary branches of the Gaia Initiative; each made up of their own subsidiary agencies and dealing with separate matters. The Eden Project was the branch dedicated to Preservation; and is the brainchild of Cormorant Technology, a group of like-minded scientists and visionaries. By December of 2061 their accomplishments included completed database mapping of all Human and Animal Genomes, perfection of nanofabrication technology, construction of a dozen massive artificial biome complexes around the world and development of a voluntary cryonic preservation program.
Volunteers for the cryonics program came from all walks of life, all ages, all races and genders. The first volunteers were awarded signing bonuses that benefited their families and so frequently came from the lower and middle class but as the state of the world worsened people were soon coming in droves and eventually had to be financially backed, sponsored or pay their own way in order to be preserved. The term “cryoneers” is coined in reference to these brave souls willing to undergo the artificial freezing process in the hopes that they may one day be reborn.
The first scene for this game will take place during your last night before the big sleep. This scenario will take place over the course of a gala dinner event arranged as a private Cormorant function for all staff and participants in the Eden Project. It will have limited media coverage and there will be a heavy security presence but the overall goal will be to celebrate the participants last day in the real world before the long sleep. There will be a number of speakers discussing the cryoneers contributions and sacrifices and an opportunity to answer media questions or even flee the event if so inclined, though Cormorant will have stop blocks in place to try to prevent that. Its really a big promotion for them and their stakeholders so they will want you to stay, and go to great lengths to make sure you at least stay until after dinner and a little dancing.
Consider how your character would feel about Cormorant insisting they attend this event on their last night before going into stasis. How would your character interact with the other people there? Would your character make the most of it? Stick to him or her self? Expect there to potentially be some antagonism and for personalities to clash during the event. This scenario is specifically designed so I can see how you write and to decrease the applicant pool down to the number of players I need. You will need to put your best RP foot forward, be ready to jump into the role of and make your character believable and interesting and I want to be able to identify with them as a human being in a real world scenario.
After that, the bulk of the game will involve what happens after you are revived after 2061; with the characters each being awakened in a derelict facility after a much-longer period of cryosleep than expected.
What is the state of the world? Why weren’t they revived sooner? Where are the Cormorant science and medical staff that should have greeted them on revival? These questions and more should drive the characters in their bid for answers and a route to the surface and presumably safety; but what lies above?
